Initial Virginia License
Old Dominion University graduates or licensure only program completers who are applying for an initial Virginia teacher license must submit the following documents to Teacher Education Services, Education Building, Room 152, Old Dominion University, Norfolk, Virginia 23529:
- Application for Initial Virginia License - completed and signed. The Office of Teacher Education Services will process your application package. A copy of the college verification and the application will be sent to you. The application package will be submitted to the Virginia Department of Education. Once your license is issued, VDOE will mail you the certificate directly to the address indicated on the application.
- Praxis I, if completing the approved teacher education program and applying for the Virginia license by December 31, 2006
- The Virginia Communication and Literacy Assessment(VCLA) is required, if applying for the Virginia license after December 31, 2006
- Praxis II
- Virginia Reading Assessment (VRA) - This is required for the license in pk-3, pk-6, special education, and reading specialist. A passing score will be required effective July 1, 2006
- An official Old Dominion University transcript in a sealed envelope (transcript request form)
- An official transcript in a sealed envelope from the institution awarding the baccalaureate degree, if other than Old Dominion University
- An official transcript in a sealed envelope from any other institution in which content knowledge courses were completed to meet the licensure requirements.
- Child Abuse and Neglect Recognition Training Certificate
- Incomplete packets will be returned.
