Basic Mediation Training

Required for General and Family Certification

This introductory course offers instruction in practical mediation skills which are applicable in many professions.  Communication skills and problem-solving techniques are emphasized using role play demonstrations to allow participants to become familiar with the mediation process.  This course includes an introduction to conflict resolution, agreement writing, mediation history, bias, and legislation.  This Basic Mediation course is certified by the Supreme Court of Virginia and meets the requirements for mediation certification.

Family Mediation Training

Required for Family Certification
$450

Family mediation is one of the fastest growing areas in the industry.  The curriculum focuses on the ethical considerations and techniques needed to mediate domestic disputes.  The role play activities allow participants to learn how to mediate disputes involving custody, visitation, and child support issues.  Participants learn how to determine if mediation is appropriate for each case.  This Family Mediation Training meets the requirements of the Supreme Court of Virginia for mediation certification.

Domestic Violence Screening

8 hours
Required for Family Certification
$145

This course is designed to teach participants an effective domestic violence screening process for use in mediation.  The dynamics of domestic violence are discussed, as well as risk assessment and safety planning for clients experiencing domestic abuse.  A variety of learning styles is employed, including group discussions, role plays, and requirements outlined by the Supreme Court of Virginia for mediation certification.

Judicial Training

4 Hours
Required for General and Family Certification
$95

The Judicial Training session meets the requirements of the Supreme Court of Virginia.  This course provides an examination of the relationships between mediation and the court system.  In this session, the participants will receive an overview of Virginia's judicial system, including the function of various courts, as well as an explanation of the legal process.
