The Resident Assistant and READY Mentor are undergraduate and graduate student positions at Old Dominion University. Resident assistants and mentors assume active leadership roles through the development and preservation of a positive living and learning environment within the READY and Old Dominion University community.
As a member of the ODU READY team, the Resident Assistant positions focus on READY student interaction with ODU college students, community development, communication, and the administrative management of the READY community. READY Mentors are volunteers with the ODUR program and provide guidance and friendship for READY students on a weekly basis.
Successful RA candidates and mentor volunteers will demonstrate knowledge of disability diagnoses, knowledge of theory and practice of therapeutic recreation principles, responsible behavior on and off-campus, effective communication skills, a desire to work, learn, and live with a challenging and diverse student population, and a sincere interest in working with individuals with intellectual disabilities, namely READY students.
