Admissions Criteria
Basic Eligibility Requirements
- Must be at least the age of 18 by the year of admission.
- Must meet eligibility guidelines established by the American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) on intellectual disability:
- A person scores approximately two standard deviations below the mean of any standardized IQ test.
- Limitations in adaptive behavior skills including conceptual, social, and practical skills that impact activities of daily living.
- Evidence that the disability was present before age 18.
- Must be his/her own guardian by the start of the program.
- Must demonstrate the ability to get along well with others.
- Must be free of self-injurious behaviors and behaviors harmful to others.
- Must have completed his/her Individualized Education Plan and received a diploma, certificate of completion, or equivalent.
- Must meet immunization requirements for Old Dominion University.
Required Materials for Application Submission
- Completed admissions application, which includes:
- Two letters of recommendation, one from a teacher and one personal (non-family member)
- Signed Assessment/Interview Agreement (included in packet)
- Documented proof of disability diagnosis
- High school transcript
- Most recent Individual Education Plan, including most recent Eligibility Minutes and Summary of Performance
- Application Fee
