1.Why choose the ODU Community College Leadership Program?

There are three reasons that make ODU's program the program of choice:

  1. Faculty - The full-time and part-time faculty are selected based on their areas of expertise and research interests.They are a unique mix of researchers and practitioners, ensuring a broad-based, comprehensive graduate experience for students
  2. Flexibility - The program is designed with the working professional in mind.The classes are delivered at varied times, with flexible delivery opportunities including face-to-face, video, and internet-based components.
  3. Cohort Model - The program admits students once a year, in a cohort of up to 15 students.The cohort model allows each incoming class a variety of opportunities to build camaraderie through the coursework, into the dissertation process, and beyond.The cohorts typically remain part of each individual's professional network throughout their careers.

2.How do I submit my application?

Students can complete an online application at admissions@odu.edu, or students can mail their application and all of the necessary credentialing information to the following address;

3.What is the deadline for applications?

The application deadline for admission is February 1st. Fifteen students are accepted annually and begin the program in the Summer semester.

4.Are GRE exams required?

Yes.This is an ODU requirement for application.If your scores are older than 5 years old, or your aggregate score is less than 1000, it is recommended that you retake the exam

5.How do I register for classes?

Students can register on the web.Web registration is available Monday-Saturday 6am-11pm and Sunday 12 noon-11pm online via www.leoonline.odu.edu . Students can register, drop/add/withdraw (through the respective deadlines), check for holds, update addresses, and more.

6.Where do I buy books?

Students can purchase texts from the ODU bookstore on campus, or online. Books can also be purchased in stores or online from other retail outlets provided that you have the correct ISBN number to identify the book you will need for class.

7.How do I videostream my TELETECHNET course?

8.Where do I find graduate School forms?

Forms can be found through the Office of Graduate Studies

9.What forms do I need for internship and where can I get the forms?

Students enrolled in the internship class can obtain internship forms, the syllabus and other class materials on the class's Blackboard site.These forms can also be found in the Graduate Handbook.

10.Whom should I work with to develop my internship?

Students should work with the instructor of record who is teaching the internship class regarding the development of the internship.

11.When can I take my candidacy exams?

Students can take their comprehensive exams once they have completed their coursework. Comprehensive exams occur each June during Summer Institute.Please keep in mind that you must complete a form requesting permission to take your comprehensive examination.

12.How many credits do I need to take for the dissertation?

Students must enroll in at least 1 credit each semester while completing their dissertation.

13.When is the dissertation seminar offered?

Dissertation seminar is offered in the spring semester.

14.If I need to drop a class, who should I contact?

Students needing to drop a class should first contact their instructor to explore other options.If there are none, the student should then contact their advisor, and the registrar's office as well.

15.Once I begin the program, must I be continually enrolled?

Once students begin enrolling for dissertation credits, they must be continually enrolled until their dissertation is successfully defended.Students are not required to maintain continuous enrollment during the completion of their coursework.Please keep in mind that students are required to complete a two semester residency requirement.

16. What is Summer Institute?

Students attend a 2-week Summer Institute program each summer. Attending the two Summer Institutes fulfills the university residency requirement by students completing 9 credits, 2 3-credit courses on campus and a third 3-credit course completed over TTN. The benefit to attending the Summer Institute is a 2 week immersion between the students and faculty. Students have the opportunity to work with fellow cohort members in a face-to-face format, meet with the faculty, and network with CCL students from other cohorts.
